Welcome to Secret Pilots And How To Unlock Them - a guide on how to unlock the various secret pilots available in Shooty Skies. Data will be a combination of my own experiences, information from Mighty Games and information from Youtube. If you have any new information to share on unlocking of specific characters (or if I've made a mistake somewhere), feel free to comment and let me know. This guide will be structured according to which mobile version update (Blooper Heroes, Rainbow Riders, etc) the secret characters got released in. If there are any errors in categorisation, feel free to comment and let me know so that I can fix it. BossesVarious secret character unlocks require that you encounter a specific boss.
For these unlocks, I'll note the boss's name (where known) as well as the warning text that accompanies its arrival ('Big bad boss blowing in' for Big Bad Wolf, 'Probe warming up' for Alien Commander, etc). The warning text will be in italics when referenced.Bonus tip: If you die while facing off against a boss and have a continue up your sleeve, using that continue will make you invincible for a bit. You can use this invincibility to kill the boss and fulfill the unlock condition. @hasuesI assume you mean you only have golden Citizen Cane and not the regular version? There's also the possibility you might have played a challenge where the regular version was the pilot, or played it as a temporarily available pilot in the regular mode.
I've made a habit out of checking the unlock-list whenever I am presented with the opportunity to play as a temporary pilot. I also lower the difficulty whenever it happens, so that any potentially tedious requirement may be easier to achieve.
As you unlock pilots, you'll discover that they impact the play. Some will produce special effects that change the background, for instance. Others are less helpful, like a pilot who snaps pictures of himself while flying.
If you're trying for a high score, you should steer clear of the ones you find distracting, so you can focus on survival.Bigger Is Better When you are choosing which targets to prioritize, try to take out the largest opponents first because their projectiles tend to extend the furthest. Charged shots are useful here, and might also eliminate the smaller craft that are also likely swarming the vicinity.Upgrades Don't Last Before you begin shooting your way through the dangerous skies for a day, you might be tempted to upgrade your guns. This makes you more effective, of course, and will allow you to more easily try for high scores. However, your investment is actually just a rental. You get a couple of hours or so with the beefed up plane, so make the most of the upgrade while it lasts, and don't pay for an upgrade unless you plan to play for a bit immediately thereafter.Charge Your Shots When you lift your finger from the screen during play, you can no longer directly control your plane but there is a definite benefit: your guns will begin charging. You can use charged shots to take down large foes and to get rid of swarms of the smaller guys, so it's worth charging your shots any time you see an opening. The more you play, the better you'll get at figuring out when you can safely charge, and the longer your runs will have the potential to last.
